The Ron Paul cam­paign, de­spite surg­ing in the Iowa polls, is not wor­thy of se­ri­ous con­sid­er­a­tion, ac­cord­ing to a New York Times ed­i­to­r­ial; “Ron Paul long ago dis­qual­i­fied him­self for the pres­i­dency by ped­dling clap­trap pro­pos­als like abol­ish­ing the Fed­eral Re­serve, re­turn­ing to the gold stan­dard, cut­ting a third of the fed­eral bud­get and all for­eign aid and op­pos­ing the Civil Rights Act of 1964.” That last item, along with the decade-old racist com­ments in the newslet­ters Paul pub­lished, is cer­tainly wor­thy of crit­i­cism. But not as an al­ter­na­tive to se­ri­ously en­gag­ing the sub­stance of Paul’s cur­rent cam­paign—his dev­as­tat­ing cri­tique of crony cap­i­tal­ism and his equally tren­chant chal­lenge to im­pe­r­ial wars and the as­sault on our civil lib­er­ties that they en­gen­der. Paul is being den­i­grated as a pres­i­den­tial con­tender even though on the vital is­sues of the econ­omy, war and peace, and civil lib­er­ties, he has made the most sense of the Re­pub­li­can can­di­dates. And by what stan­dard of logic is it “clap­trap” for Paul to at­tempt to hold the Fed ac­count­able for its de­struc­tive poli­cies? That’s the give­away ref­er­ence to the raw nerve that his fa­vor­able prospects in the Iowa cau­cuses have ex­posed. Too much anti-Wall Street pop­ulism in the heart­land can be a truly scary thing to the in­tel­lec­tual par­a­sites re­sid­ing in the belly of the beast that con­trols Amer­i­can cap­i­tal­ism. It is hyp­o­crit­i­cal that Paul is now de­picted as the arch­en­emy of non-white mi­nori­ties when it was his neme­sis, the Fed­eral Re­serve, that en­abled the bank­ing swin­dle that wiped out 53 per­cent of the me­dian wealth of African-Amer­i­cans and 66 per­cent for Lati­nos, ac­cord­ing to the Pew Re­search Cen­ter. After the melt­down it was the Fed that led ul­tra-se­cret machi­na­tions to bail out the banks while ig­nor­ing the plight of their ex­ploited cus­tomers. [image: Article image] To his credit, Paul mar­shaled bi­par­ti­san sup­port to pass a bill re­quir­ing the first-ever pub­lic audit of the Fed­eral Re­serve. That audit is how read­ers of the Times first learned of the Fed’s tril­lions of dol­lars in se­cret loans and aid given to the banks as a re­ward for screw­ing over the pub­lic. As for the Times’ com­plaint that Paul seeks to un­rea­son­ably cut the fed­eral bud­get by one-third, it should be noted that his is a rare voice in chal­leng­ing ir­ra­tionally high mil­i­tary spend­ing. At a time when the pres­i­dent has signed off on a Cold War-level de­fense bud­get and his po­ten­tial op­po­nents in the Re­pub­li­can field want to waste even more on high-tech weapons to fight a so­phis­ti­cated enemy that doesn’t exist, Paul has emerged as the only se­ri­ous peace can­di­date. As The Wall Street Jour­nal re­ported, Paul last week warned an Iowa au­di­ence, “Watch out for the mil­i­tary-in­dus­trial com­plex—they al­ways have an enemy. No­body is going to in­vade us. We don’t need any more [weapons sys­tems].” As an­other re­cent ex­am­ple of Paul’s san­ity on the na­tional se­cu­rity is­sues that have led to a flight from rea­son on the part of politi­cians since the 9/11 at­tacks, I offer the Texan’s crit­i­cism this week of the Na­tional De­fense Au­tho­riza­tion Act (NDAA). The act would allow the pres­i­dent to order in­de­ter­mi­nate mil­i­tary im­pris­on­ment with­out trial of those ac­cused of sup­port­ing ter­ror­ism, a pol­icy that Obama signed into law and Paul op­poses, as the con­gress­man did George W. Bush’s Pa­triot Act. Paul said: “Lit­tle by lit­tle, in the name of fight­ing ter­ror­ism, our Bill of Rights is being re­pealed. ... The Pa­triot Act, as bad as its vi­o­la­tion of the 4th Amend­ment, was just one step down the slip­pery slope. The re­cently passed (NDAA) con­tin­ues that slip to­ward tyranny and in fact ac­cel­er­ates it sig­nif­i­cantly ... The Bill of Rights has no ex­emp­tion for ‘re­ally bad peo­ple’ or ter­ror­ists or even non-cit­i­zens. It is a key check on gov­ern­ment power against any per­son. This is not a weak­ness in our legal sys­tem; it is the very strength of our legal sys­tem.” That was ex­actly the ob­jec­tion raised by The New York Times in its own ex­cel­lent ed­i­to­r­ial chal­leng­ing the con­sti­tu­tion­al­ity of the NDAA. It should not be dif­fi­cult for those same ed­i­to­r­ial writ­ers to treat Ron Paul as a pro­found and prin­ci­pled con­trib­u­tor to a much-needed na­tional de­bate on the lim­its of fed­eral power in­stead of at­tempt­ing to mar­gin­al­ize his views be­yond recog­ni­tion. *This ar­ti­cle was orig­i­nally posted on Truthdig<http://www.truthdig.com/> .*

*The Big Gravyboat* ** Not so long ago and not so far away, man discovered an uncharted and unnamed cold arcadia. Whether they disembarked from skin boats or coffin ships, the experience of these newcomers was always the same: Whatever small comforts they enjoyed were purchased at the cost of early privation and long years of hard work. Having once mastered the secret of successful nation building, later governments would specialize in handing out costly crutches. Thousands of tax subsidized settlement agencies (operated exclusively by and for newcomers ill equipped to succeed in wider Canadian civil life), are a poor substitute for robust self starters. Once again, it's Canada - rich by nature, poor by policy: "*The government earmarked $583 million for settlement services across Canada for 2011-12, down from $622 million the year before*. That amount will drop another $6 million for 2012-13 to a total of $577 million across Canada, according to figures obtained by *CBC News*. For the current year, *Citizenship and Immigration Canada* budgeted $346.5 million for Ontario, a decrease from $390 million the previous year. For 2012-13, it'll drop again to $314.9 million, a loss of $31.5 million. ... British Columbia is getting $109.8 million, a slight increase over $105.6 million for 2011-12. *Thomas Tam*, head of a B.C. organization that helps immigrants integrate, says ... 'That's a very important additional resources for us. [sic] In the last couple of years, we've been seeing more and more immigrants into the province, particularly from Asia. Prison Watchdog Probes Spike in Number of Black Inmates

It seems Blacks are wildly over-represented in the federal prisons. "Canada’s independent prisons ombudsman has launched an inquiry into a 50 per cent spike in the proportion of black offenders filling federal jails over the last 10 years. Howard Sapers, the federal correctional investigator, wants to study the possible causes behind the increase, which saw the proportion of black offenders in federal incarceration jump to 9.12 per cent in 2010-2011, from less than six per cent a decade earlier. It amounts to a 52 per cent leap, with the most dramatic increase occurring over the last five years. More than 1,300 black offenders are currently serving time in federal penitentiaries. Most of them are in Ontario, where 20 per cent of the entire federal prison population of 14,312 inmates is black, according to new statistics. Whether those numbers can be curbed—and why they are what they are—will be the focus of Sapers’ report. If there are gaps in the system that must be filled, such as a possible need to hire more visible minority staff, he hopes to identify them. The disproportionate number of black convicts serving in federal prisons has long troubled Roger Rowe.The Toronto lawyer, who has been practising for more than 20 years, said little has changed since a 1995 report on systemic racism in Ontario’s criminal justice system. “On any given day, you can step into any criminal court in Toronto and see a gross over-representation of black young males,” Rowe said, adding that he feels the issue of an over-representation of black and aboriginal people has been studied to death. Tazio Clarke, a Toronto social worker who mostly helps adolescent, high-risk and black offenders, said Sapers will likely find that the black prison population is young and in need of education. As for the latest statistics showing the spike in black inmate representation, Clarke was hardly surprised, adding that he only needs to scan the faces in a detention centre to draw an obvious conclusion. 'Visually, I could see the reality to the stats,' he said. 'Like, what’s going on here? Do they have specific jails for other cultures that I’m not visiting? Because I’m not seeing them.'” (Yahoo News, Dec. 15, 2011) Here's a radical thought: Perhaps, Blacks are over-represented in the prison system because they commit disproportionately more crime than other groups. You can already see where he's going, though: "Whether those numbers can be curbed—and why they are what they are—will be the focus of Sapers’ report. If there are gaps in the system that must be filled, such as a possible need to hire more visible minority staff, he hopes to identify them." "Curb" the numbers? Does that mean a "Black discount"? Some years ago, the same leftist mindset noticed that native Indians were wildly overrepresented in prison. No one seriously suggested that they had been falsely convicted. Nevertheless, to get the numbers down somewhat the "Native discount" was invented. Indians will often draw a lighter sentence because, well, they are natives and its assumed they came from a background of alcoholism, neglect and child abuse. Sometimes they avoid the Big House altogether by being sentenced to a a healing circle or some other practice that favours them at the expense of, say, White villains. The central problem here is a fanatical belief in equality. If all people are equal, this irrational faith reasons, they should commit crime and, therefore, be imprisoned at the same rate as anyone else. The slightest application of logic shows the idiocy of this notion. By this line of reasoning 18-30 year olds should commit crime and be incarcerated at the same rate as 60-75 year olds. Of course, they don't and they aren't for a number of reasons. Youths tend to be more active, violent and risk taking than people over 60. Therefore, it's no surprise they commit more crimes than the oldsters. Simply put, Blacks commit crime, especially violent crime, way out of proportion to their numbers. This is true in Britain, in the U.S. and Canada. Several years ago, Jared Taylor of American Renaissance published a study based on FBI statistics called The Colour of Crime. It found that Negroes in the U.S. commit an overwhelmingly disproportionate number of violent crimes. Here's the most recent "Most Wanted" criminals from a notice circulated on the Toronto Police website. What a stunning indictment of our failed immigration policies. According to the most recent (2006) census date, "visible minorities accounted for 42.9% or 2,174,100 of the population in Toronto (Census Metropolitan Area) The largest visible minority groups in Toronto were South Asian (684,100), Chinese (486,300), Black (352,200), and Filipino (172,000)." In percentage terms, that 57.1% White; 6.9% Black and 9.6% Chinese." Yet, of the 26 persons "wanted for murder by the Toronto Police Service, at least 20 or 77 per cent were visible minorities, most of them Black. Of the 26, 20 were visible minorities, just two were White, two are unidentifiable, and two are "young offenders," so the police tell us nothing. Put another way, Whites constitute 57.1% of the population of Toronto and, yet, just two persons, a mere 7.6% of the total cast of villains wanted for murder are White. A Toronto Sun (December 15, 2011) story headlined "25 of 28 Toronto gun victims black males" reported: " Those who wield the guns in Toronto and the victims whose lives they've snuffed out both seem to be getting younger all the time. And anyone who has been paying attention to the city's latest wave of deadly shootings, which have left four dead and at least six wounded, will no doubt notice another obvious factor. 'The fact is, is that it's young black males who are dying,' Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo, a crime victim advocate, said Thursday. She knows there will be people within her community who will be angered by what she has to say. But she's hoping that anger will motivate people to get involved in helping to stop the bloodshed. 'Until we find a way to get our youth engaged, they're just going to keep shooting each other,' Omololu-Olunloyo said bluntly. So far this year, there have been 28 gun murders in Toronto. Shockingly, 25 of the victims are black males. And just as troubling is the fact that 10 of the 28 victims were still teens. " Several years ago, the Toronto Star reported that Blacks, while they constitute less than seven per cent of the population of Metropolitan Toronto committed or were the victim of nearly 70% of violent crime, described as murder, attempted murder or armed robbery. Nearly two decades ago, Negro activist Lennox Farrell bemoaned the fact that nearly half of the people coming before the courts in Toronto were Black and that Black youths were slaying one another. On comments made on May, 2001, Farrell added: "I think, too, of two primary needs of the Black community (Toronto and elsewhere); one of which is, in my opinion, the need for Black youth to find hope in worthwhile effort. There are varying manifestations of this primary need. These include the increasing dropout rates from high school; the drop-in rates to colleges in dead-end, over-subscribed courses like hairdressing and business management; the declining age-levels of teen parents; the increasing of Black children in foster care; the loss, and in many instances the utter rejection of any appetite for academic excellence." However, both Nature (behavioural or genetic inclinations) and Nurture (the environment one lives in) can provide a nudge to free will. University of Western Ontario psychology professor J. Philippe Rushton has long argued that certain behaviours have a genetic root and differ among the races. Blacks are more aggressive and impulsive than Whites or Orientals. That doesn't mean Teeshawn was forced by his genes to rob Leroy of his drug stash and blow him away. It merely means that his genes nudged him in that direction. "Black family structure," Professor Rushton wrote, " however, has been studied intensively. Since the 1965 Moyhihan Report documented the high rates of marital dissolution, frequent heading of families by women, and numerous illegitimate births, the figures cited as evidence for the instability of the black family have doubled, almost tripled in some areas." This neatly leads to the second factor influencing behaviour -- Environment -- and against Blacks as a whole come up short. Take illegitimacy. In 2007, 71.6 per cent of all births were illegitimate and the figures for Canada are only slightly lower. In his explosive new book Suicide of a Superpower, Patrick J. Buchanan writes: "Why are these dramatic increases significant? Because the correlation between illegitimacy rates, dropout rates, crime rates and incarceration rates is absolute. The more children born out of wedlock, the more who will never graduate from high school and will get into trouble before they are adults. The social scientist Charles Murray calls illegitimacy 'the single most important social problem of our time -- more important than crime, drugs, poverty, illiteracy, welfare or homelessness because it drives everything else.' As the conservative columnist Ann Coulter writes: 'A study cited in the far-left Village Voice found that children brought up in single mother homes 'are five times more likely to commit suicide, nine times more likely to drop out of high school, 10 times more likely to abuse chemical substances, 14 times more likely to commit rape (for the boys), 20 times more likely to end up in prison and 32 times more likely to run away from home.'" And, there's most of the answer for Howard Sapers. We don't need another costly study regurgitating discredited egalitarian mumbo jumbo: it's systemic "racism"; we need more basketball courts; we need more Negro police officers. As long as nearly 7 in 10 Negroes are born out of wedlock, high Black violent crime rate, drug use and incarceration are almost inevitable. Here's where the failed doctrine of multiculturalism comes in. Negro illegitimacy, while high, has soared in recent years. It was roughly 23 per cent when the Moynihan Report was written in 1965. Today it tops 70 per cent. Almost all Negroes in Canada are immigrants or the children of immigrants. Almost half of Toronto's Negroes come from Jamaica, a violent drug and gun culture, where illegitimacy is rife. When Trudeau ill advisedly welcomed tens of thousands of Jamaicans in the 1970s, there was little effort to insist or enforce the notion that illegitimacy and "casual" family structure was unacceptable. Multiculturalism preached the ludicrous notion that all cultures are equal and should be equally valued. People should be allowed, nay encouraged, to practise their often failed culture. Well, they did. Read the pathetic Toronto murder stories. Most of the victims and perpetrators ae Black, most of them Jamaican. Almost all live in public housing; almost all come from single-mother homes; almost all are school dropouts or are killed while still in school. Many, even though in their late teens or early 20s, have started an illegitimate brood of their own. Blacks over-represented in Canadians prisons. No mystery. If it is for Howard Saper, he should be out of a job.
