*Best of Luck to the Fourniers: Free Dominion vs Richard Warman in Ottawa Court, January 3rd* ** *Marc and Connie Fournier and the website freedominion.ca are another of Richard Warman's victims. They are the objects of no fewer than three defamation suits filed by chronic litigant and complainer Warman. The Fourniers are traditional Reform Party conservatives who are pro-Zionist but also strongly pro-free speech. It was their criticism of Richard Warman that led to the retaliatory lawsuits. These have been complicated by many side motions - one where Warman sought to compel the Fouriers to divulge the IP addresses of some of the bloggers on Freedominion who had also criticized Warman. And then appeals of the decisions about these motions. If you don’t want me to email you updates on our cases, please let me know and I’ll make sure to take you off my list. And, please pass this around because I know I am missing people, but I lost my old list, and I’m doing this in a hurry. Anyway, on January 3rd at 9am (or whatever time after that that the case is called in), we will be at a Motion hearing in the courthouse on Elgin St. in Ottawa. This motion is one that we filed in the John Doe case. We are asking for leave to update our statements of defence (our new ones are much more detailed, and we think they are far superior to the ones we filed five years ago). Yes, it’s been FIVE YEARS. Warman has updated his statement of claim three times, so we don’t think this is going to be an issue with the court, but he wouldn’t consent to the changes like we did when he asked, so we have to go through the motion to get it done. The other part of the motion is asking for leave to file a jury notice. We didn’t realize until a few weeks ago that we were entitled to a jury and we could have done this earlier (the confusion arose when we changed lawyers around the time it should have been done). Anyway, we are hoping the court will allow us to do it now, and we think we have the law on our side on this one, too. Obviously, having a jury in this case would be the best possible scenario, so we are hoping it flies. If you are in Ottawa and want to come, we would love to see you there. Victoria-based lawyer and long-time free speech activist Douglas H. Christie addressed the Christmas gathering of the Canadian Association for Free Expression and posed some politically incorrect questions for his packed audience. Challenging Canada's Trudeau-era fetish with group rights and special privileges for certain groups, Mr. Christie asked: "Why can't there be 'anti-Semitism?' Anti-Christianity is rampant. There's a double standard. You can slam Christianity, but not Judaism or Islam."
