[image: Children like Tipen are admitted to nutrition centres and given Ready-To-Use-Therapeutic-Food also known as Plumpy Nut to help treat malnutrition.] *World Vision is Hollering for Dollars* The ads are incessant on *CBC Newsworld*. World Vision Canada is hollering for dollars supposedly to help the children in the Horn of Africa's recurring famile. The message keeps changing. In an undated but recent statement, they announced: "The most severe drought in decades is threatening the lives of more than 10 million people — especially young children — in the Horn of Africa. Kenya, Somalia, and Ethiopia are the worst affected. World Vision is responding by providing emergency food and health care, and by meeting other urgent needs for children and families in the Horn of Africa." Not to be critical, but in an even more recent statement, the figure has been jacked up to 13-million. Really? Three million more almost over night! The supposedly "starving" parents breed like bunnies, but such an increase is, well, mystifying. Anyway, the bottom line is send money and, in a way, your pocket can be lightened twice, as, all donations received up to September 16, will be matched dollar for dollar by you, well, actually the Government of Canada. The Horn of Africa is hopeless, especially Somalia. Remember the drought ot the early 1990s? Somali clans were so savage and bloody minded that warlords in Mogadishu would seize foreign aid food and prevent aid agencies from delivering it to rival clans. The U.S. Canada and the UN intervened to try to force Somalis to let other Somalis have access to the food aid. What did we get? Blackhawk down, incredibly savagry and mutilation of UN soldiers unfortunate enough to be captured by the *khat* crazed militias and, for poor old Canada, we lost our Airborne Division as our cowardly politicians disbanded it after several paratroopers killed a Somali thief they were trying to sort out. Oh, yes, and hordes of "refugees." Heah! Let's try that one again. The* Encyclopedia of the Nations* reports: "According to the February 1975 population census, the population of Somalia was 3,253,024." By 1990, it was about 7,000,000. Thus, in 15 years it had doubled. Today, less than 20 years after the last huge famine, it is 9.925-million. The birthrate is 6.44 children per woman. The population, according to the *Globe and Mail* will soar to 28,362,000 by 2050; that is, more than triple the population of today! Yet, Somalia couldn't feed itself in 1992! The utterly irresponsible breeding is not a choice we in Canada make. It's the choice of Somalis, Shovelling food aid and foreign aid to Somalis will merely encourage them in their self destructive behaviour. African economist Dambisa Moyo argues: "Foreign aid regularly supports tyranical governments and perpetuates cycles of poverty. It also fuels and intensifies civil wars as combatants frequently have nothing to fight over but access to foreign aid." In her book *Dead Aid*, she explains that aid "no longer part of the potential solution, [is] part of the problem -- *in fact aid is the problem* ." "Somalia is a disaster. It is plagued by failed peace talks, violence, refugees, pirates, poverty, chronic underdevelopment,. proxy wars, ... clan conflicts, warlords, Islamic extremism and a growing terror threat from * al-Qaeda*-linked radicals." (*Globe and Mail*, July 23, 2011) Some preachy talking head on television the other day insisted that the famine is an "opportunity" for Canada. It should be an opportunity to ignore World Vision and do nothing. Let Nature take its course. Somali irresponsibility has already overtaxed the carrying capacity of the land. Foreign aid will reward this destructive behaviour. The urchin "saved" today by World Vision will help breed his nation into further catastrophe or, worse still, emigrate to Canada or the U.S. Writing in the *Irish Independent* earlier this week, K. Myers explained: "How much morality is there in saving an Ethiopian child from starvation today, for it to survive to a life of brutal circumcision, poverty, hunger, violence and sexual abuse, resulting in another half-dozen such wide-eyed children, with comparably jolly little lives ahead of them? Of course, it might make you feel better, which is a prime reason for so much charity.! But that is not good enough. ... It is nearly 25 years since Ethiopia's (and Bob Geldof's) famous Feed The World campaign, and in that time Ethiopia's population has grown from 33.5 million to 78 million today. ... The wide-eyed boy-child we saved, 20 years or so ago, is now a priapic, Kalashnikov-bearing hearty, siring children whenever the whim takes him. Alas, that wretched country is not alone in its madness. Somewhere, over the rainbow, lies Somalia, another fine land of violent, Kalashnikov-toting, khat-chewing, girl-circumcising, permanently tumescent layabouts. Indeed, we now have almost an entire continent of sexually hyperactive, illiterate indigents, with tens of millions of people who only survive because of help from the outside world." No one aided Europe during its many famines and the Black Death. Somalia and the horny toads in the Horn of Africa will have to reform their behaviour. Foreign aid merely indulges their destructive irresponsibility! *Paul Fromm* *Canada First Immigration Reform Committee* |
